Bel-Air Community Association --
Our office wanted to let you know that public consultations for the
Rental Accommodations Study have now been announced! This is a chance
for people to have a say regarding Air B&B, student housing,
'bunkhouse' developments, and the need for better protections for
tenants/renters (e.g. landlord licensing)!
Unfortunately, very little notice has been provided by the City's
consultants: the first public consultation (on student housing and
bunkhouses) takes place THIS Monday, May 27th, across the street from
Billings Bridge (600-1355 Bank St). The second consultation, on
short-term rentals (e.g. Air B&B), will be taking place the following
day, May 28th, at the Heron Road Community Centre (1480 Heron Rd).
Please register for either with Maclaren Municipal Consulting by email
at rentalhousingstudy@gmail.com <mailto:rentalhousingstudy@gmail.com>
Our office invites you to get involved in the public process and help
shape our public policy. Landlords, developers, and corporations like
Air B&B, have their boosters already signed up, so we need average
folks to be there and be heard as well (spaces are 'limited', so
register without delay).
If you are unable to attend the public consultations in person, there
is also an online survey for each theme (they only take a minute!):
- Concerned about AirBnB eating up affordable rentals in the City,
pushing up the cost of rent, just to make a profit? Fill out the
survey on Short-Term Rental Regulations.
- Tired of inadequate and unwelcome student housing options, like
'bunkhouses'? Fill out the survey on Student Housing Regulations.
- Tired of bad landlords? Fill out the survey on Rental Housing
Conditions <https://s-ca.chkmkt.com/…>.
More information, including the full list of consultations
('workshops'), is available here
<https://ottawa.ca/…/pu…/projects/rental-accommodations-study>.
Have a great weekend!
Shawn Menard, City Councillor for Capital Ward
